Majors must meet the general baccalaureate requirements and complete a minimum
of 30 semester hours in political science, in addition to the state-mandated
courses in American government, POLS 1336 and 1337 or equivalents. At
least 24 semester hours of the total required must be at the 3000 level
or above, and of these advanced hours, at least 15 semester hours must
be taken in residence.
Advanced hours should be taken as soon as possible after completing POLS 1336 and
1337, and must include POLS 3310; three hours from POLS 3311, 3313, 3315;
three hours from POLS 3314, 3318, 3319; three hours from POLS 3311, 3312,
3313, 3314, 3315, 3316, 3318, or 3319. No more than six total semester
hours of grades of D in political science will be applied toward degree
requirements in the major. No more than six semester hours of special
problems courses and/or internships may be used to satisfy any major requirements
in political science.
Students must earn a 2.0 minimum cumulative grade point average in courses attempted
in the major at the university. Students are encouraged to distribute
course work in political science over several of the following areas:
American politics, comparative politics, international politics, public
administration, public law, political theory, and methodology.
